Taccia - Flos

table lamp (1962)

Designed by Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni in 1958, the design and prototype Taccia are defined in 1959 and after some years, made by Flos is a pattern of mass production that leads to the production in 1962.

The lamp consists of a base made of extruded anodized aluminum (also painted black), resting on the base is a deep glass bell jar on top of which is placed a concave aluminum disc enamelled with white paint.

An incandescent bulb is hidden inside the base metal, profiled with projections to improve the heat diffusion of the light bulb.

The bell translucent glass is resting freely on the base and can be oriented to direct the light diffusion.

Achille Castiglioni said of Taccia in a 1970 interview interview: "we consider it the Mercedes of lamps, a symbol of success, perhaps because it looks like a classical column.
Certainly we were not thinking when we designed the prestige. We wanted to obtain a surface that remained cold. "

How many of the projects conceived "by the Castiglioni" Shut up and became an exemplary piece "timeless", still produced and successfully marketed.
