Lamborghini is the name of the Italian company for the production of luxury sports cars founded in 1963 by Ferruccio Lamborghini. At the time Lamborghini was a successful man, very rich but also a skilled and dynamic entrepreneur. After the first world war he founded his tractor factory, a point of reference in the sector.

At the beginning of the 1960s, Lamborghini decided and announced that it wanted to build the best super sports car ever. Many thought that he had gone mad and that this extravagant idea would not create any profit for the company.

The project was born at the end of 1962 and in May 1963 the company "Automobili Ferruccio Lamborghini" was established with the purchase of land in Sant'Agata Bolognese, between Bologna and Modena, for the construction of a large factory. Thanks to the experience of the previous companies, Lamborghini built a modern plant with a large, very bright warehouse near the offices, to allow managers to have constant control of production. This is particularly pleasing to Lamborghini, who have no problem working personally on cars when things don't go their way.

The debut of the "Automobili Ferruccio Lamborghini" took place at the Salone dell’Auto di Torino in 1963 where the 350 GTV, a 12-cylinder masterpiece designed by Giotto Bizzarrini and two young engineers, Gian Paolo Dallara and Paolo, were presented. Stanzani.

The following year the 350 GT series version was presented, followed by the 400 GT, produced in 120 units.

Ferruccio Lamborghini always has a central role in the history of the company. We owe to him the tradition of naming the cars with names of bull breeds, as strong and valiant as his cars. Between 1965 and 1966 the Bolognese house presented numerous innovations, with new models and technical improvements. The most relevant is a new, apparently extravagant chassis, presented in the Lamborghini stand at the 1965 Turin Motor Show, destined to have a great impact on the automotive world.

In 1966 the Lamborghini 400 TP was born with a 4.000cc 12-cylinder engine positioned transversely behind the cockpit. Designed by Dallara and Stanzani, with the frame made of bent, welded and perforated sheet metal to reduce weight. The design is entrusted to Marcello Gandini, of Carrozzeria Bertone. The new car is presented at the Geneva Motor Show that same year.

Production of the Lamborghini 400 GT began in 1966 with the 4-liter 12-cylinder, already widely used in the last 23 models of the 350 GT. Compared to the previous model, the 400 GT has been redesigned and made more spacious, resulting in the first true 2 + 2 four-seater Lamborghini model.

Ferruccio Lamborghini died in 1993. One hundred years after his birth, the Centenario made its debut, to celebrate his visionary personality.
