Furniture and home furnishings (1943)

The IKEA story begins in 1926, year of birth of its founder, Ingvar Kamprad, a native of Smaland in southern Sweden. Ingvar, who grew up on a farm called Elmtaryd, near the small village of Agunnaryd, decided very early to develop a business.

The '20s
Five years Ingvar Kamprad began selling matches to neighbors and seven years began to go farther, move by bike. He realized that by buying in large quantities in Stockholm, at a good price, he could always sell at a low price but still make a good profit. The success with matches led him to expand his business selling seeds, greeting cards, Christmas decorations and, later, pencils and ballpoint pens.

The years '40-'50
The origins of a furniture dealer. Ingvar Kamprad gave proof of great entrepreneurial skills to turn into a business with IKEA furniture. This period saw the exploration of furniture design, installation DIY, advertising, use of a catalog and an exhibition space to reach as many people as possible.

The years '60-'70
The IKEA concept starts to take shape. IKEA opened new stores were built and historic products such as chair and Poang BILLY bookcase. During this time the ideas were beginning to take shape, as documented in the book by Ingvar Kamprad "The Testament of a Furniture Dealer.

The '80
IKEA expands exponentially into new markets such as USA, Italy, France and the United Kingdom. Other IKEA classics arrive such as KLIPPAN, LACK and MOMENT. IKEA IKEA is increasingly taking shape today.

The 90s
IKEA continues to grow. Born's IKEA, and the focus is on solutions of home furnishings to meet the needs of families with young children. Founded the IKEA Group and responsibility towards people and the environment is seen as a prerequisite for economic un'agire correct and successful.

The 2000's
IKEA expands to other markets such as Japan and Russia. Is a comprehensive collection of articles designed for the bathroom and kitchen furniture solutions presented in coordinates. This period also saw the success of several partnerships regarding social and environmental projects.
